Isn't it though? Feel like the melodies are more fleshed out

i'm actually kind of confused by there being two versions of Winter Solstice / would be interested to hear why they decided on that

you’re not the love of my life,
it had already passed me by---
finally grasping the line
casting pearls before swine?”
holy fucking shit. so heavy

I think most of the people who've rated it have been fans, at least to a certain extent. Unfortunately, once it's officially released, I think the Doof's of the world will probably bring it down. I'd love it to stay above a 4 though.

I've been a fan of these guys since I was in high school and I'm somewhat critical of stuff like A to B and It's All Crazy. Even Ten Stories has its fair share of filler. But this is sublime. I think a lot of people who aren't avid fans or even newcomers will find a lot to like from this

Agreed. I was disappointed and critical when I first heard Pale Horses, but this immediately hit as being on another level entirely.

Michael just clicked for me. I needed the lyrics in front of me (even while reading them it’s hard to keep up). So much pain in the delivery : (

Also I think I’m gonna be in the minority and say that Break on Throigh is an amazing closer. I get Michael is the emotional climax, but Break is such a clear continuation and so transparent on aaron’s part.

I really like Break on Through, but I'm really surprised 2,459 Miles isn't getting more love. The lyrics on that are just devastating and the washy melody reminds me of a Beach House track.

I was just going to say that 2459 is also one of my favorites off the entire record - I honestly get the feels super hard at that point.

I adore how this thing ends. You cannot come back after something like "Michael" so "Break Through" is the most suitable way to close imo. It only highlights the impact of the album before it even more and leaves the listener in silence by its end. It's chilling stuff.

I bet it settles at 4.2. I only say that because Brother Sister is a 4.3 and nothing will ever beat it

im an outsider coming into this band so don't hate me too much, please, but i see nothing interesting or groundbreaking here, as i was told would be found within. i think the thing that really destroys this for me is the vocals and also melodies that are so helplessly influenced by drab, contemporary indie rock.
from the cover art i was thinking this would be some art rock/ avant-rock or something like talk talk

I'm not too concerned where the average settles because most of the known mwY fans here seem to be in agreement.
Personally I'd say B,S and this are just different kinds of 5's. This is heavier/more disorienting and I'll listen to it when I'm feeling lost or lonely, while B,S has more of a warmth to it even though it's still urgent.

Damn, that niche was filled very comfortably by Pale Horses for me - how'd you describe the relation between the two?
Am holding off on this until my vinyl arrives and I get home (been travelling for over a month now and want to get home, put my feet up, crack open a beer and hear this at its own pace) but am dangerously excited
