I didn’t know anyone thought Madonnawhore was better than this. NGW4M is alright but cmon. And I love Phobos but this is slightly better.

this did grow, but I still think I prefer Madonnawhore slightly more than this... if I remember correctly, they have quite different and distinct vibes though

TAtS definitely has more striking instrumentation, I cannot deny that - but I feel the lyricism and vocal delivery isn't as mellow and intimate as Madonnawhore. I'm absolutely in love with The Scarlet Whore/Her Dealings with the Initiate
Also to heck with you, N.G.H.4.M. is glorious

Madonnawhore is cool but this is much more sonically interesting and emotional. NGH4M isn’t even an album, it’s just a good long song, and a bit repetitive.

Madonnawhore is good for late night walking, and perfect for laying on the couch with the lights off, blissing

They Are the Shield > Madonnawhore > NGH4M
You're welcome

I actually really love NGH4M, but it's hard to compare to Madonnawhore when it's so much shorter. They both have distinct vibes and are all 4/5 or higher for me, with this (TAtS) being my favorite. New LP by Alora Crucible is also excellent, but not sure yet if I like it more than this. Need more time. So stoked for new Kayo Dot next month (another new single next week)

New remixed version of this is out with new alternate take of Scaffolding with Toby on vocals and an alternate cover art. Also didn’t realize it’s the Yeah Yeah Yeahs drummer, Brian Chase, providing drums for the record.

Remix might be my least favorite variant of this album. Live Album > Original > Remix. It's still a fantastic album though. Always preferred Toby's vocals on Scaffold anyway.

Haven’t got a chance to listen to it yet- why do you prefer original over remix? Also it’s on Bandcamp now and will be on streaming services tomorrow. Original has been wiped from streaming services. Glad I picked up a cd copy from their 2020 tour for posterity.

It's probably personal preference, but it sounds a little too 'clean' now. It seems like the reverb that kind of helped blend everything together (especially on the Live version) has been toned down. I think his vocal performance on Scaffold was far more comfortable in the live version as well. Yeah, I got a vinyl copy on that tour as well. Every time Toby plays in my area, there are only about 10-20 people in attendance and it makes me sad.

Just read this on RYM, comment from a couple of months ago:
"Toby Driver just came out on his Instagram and said his ex was horribly abusive to him and threatened him with violence if he didn't put her on the album. Her voice can be heard on "Scaffold of Digital Snow"
What the hell, that would be so sad : (
Hope all is well now (if that comment is indeed true)
