I've seen them four times and they never play much Alchemy Index stuff outside of Firebreather since it requires way more production. Sad times considering that's some of their best work (imo)

I will say I did see them play a huge, epic rendition of Song For Milly Michaelson and that was incredible.

They've been playing Daedalus a lot the past few years as well. That's tied for my favorite Thrice song so it's always a treat to hear live because of how much emotion Dustin puts into it.

Worth a shot? Where should I start? They aren’t screamo right? Some screaming is good. I love Deftones, Tool, Chevelle, Mastodon etc.



I checked out one song, think it was called Of Ashes and Nations. Sounded pretty damn good.

there are harsh vocals, especially in earlier albums, but they aren't screamo. you should be good if you like the bands you listed.



they used to be my favorite band and i would highly recommend that you listen to them. vheissu (which has 'of dust and nations' on it) and the alchemy index EPs are probably the best places to start

Yeah through my brief reading I gathered that Vheissu was their best album, as well as Ambulance. And that I can probably skip the first album.

yeah i wouldn't really recommend identity crisis to anyone. if you want to start with the early days i would just go with illusion of safety.



however, starting with vheissu will probably get you closest to mastodon/deftones territory, though they are pretty different from them in general

that is probably accurate, yeah. the alchemy index EPs all sound really different from each other, so they will also give you a really good idea of the different things thrice can do.
