"Based on this do any of y'all think ITVL could've stood without vocals? I think LYE needs the vocals but i'm not so sure with ITVL."
In spades I'd say that album could go without them but then there's songs that were clearly written with vocals in mind. Doug sounded great on the first album then crashed and burned on the sophomore release for some reason.

The guitarist is definitely a Meshuggah fan but I seriously never thought "this sounds like _" at any point during the album, minus one section at the end of No Moon which reminded me of Tool

Interesting idea. With a little rewriting it could work actually.
BTW: I was looking why the average was going down and saw someone named "2ool" rating this with 1.0 - is this a hint that it's not that similar to Tool?

ahahaha again with that discussion lol Or he thought actually that, or got offended with some resemblance (I didn't). Only the dude can speak for himself X) as for me I erased the "tool" tag but somehow it's back there. That may mean something, I don't know anymore lol

theres definitely some tool inspiration going on here, but its not very obvious

was pretty obvious for me but my opinion got a little bashed, so maybe it isn't that obvious unless you're looking for it I guess.

A little bit of Tool in here too. Occasionally with some of the percussion, but mostly the guitar. I heard it without looking.

Totally agreed. If I have to put myself in the inner circle I'd bet money the situation was the band intending to write a semi-accessible first album and then segwaying into more complex territory due to limited initial exposure. Maybe by the time they began writing the third album, Doug had trouble keeping up. I mean shit, who could? The music is very erratic in the best way possible.
