I really like the vibe Billy creates on this record, but it's a shame that he never really takes control in any songs, there are some decent riffs here and there, but nothing that truly stands out compared to their first two records.

In general I can respect the more "theatrical" approach of this record, but it's certainly not my preference. The layered piano work with guitars, keyboards, etc are very well done but just doesn't completely scratch the itch I need when it comes to A Perfect Circle.

tldr: The music sounds like Linkin Park

So is this a hard classic for you then bloc?
|

Haha perhaps I should have been more specific. The music sounds like post-2003 Linkin Park.

And that makes a difference? I might listen to this just in case it actually gets me talking about music rather than shit-posting.

the only bad thing about this album is its artwork. and the fact it doesn't sound much like APC at all.

Eh it sounds like a natural progression from how tamed Thirteenth Step was from Mer De Noms and how eMOTIVe continued that trend. 15 years later since their last proper record I think this sound makes sense.

it 100% follows the established career trajectory of MJK so nothing unexpected at all

When I saw them live it was so jarring to see 13th step and then see their new stuff. Honestly I think this album sounds better here than it came across live. Unless maybe they only played this album, then the show would possibly be helped from a consistent theatrical feel.
