a conversation starter: what about Amenra's music or this particular album appeals to you emotionally or musically?

Next to Neurosis. Theyre my favourite band ever but I dont listen to them that often because its an underttaking for me. Its taxing. Ive been a fan since mid 2000s but I only really, really got it when I was in a super dark place and watched the 'Aorte/Ritual' Live closer from 23/10 DVD About 6/7 years ago. I dunno, something hit me. I had tears coming down my face in a room full of dudes! I flew to europe to watch them a few weeks later and literally purged all this negative shit id been let fester due to some health shit that changed my life. In hindsight possibly could have saved my life, I dont really know for sure of course. Since then Ive seen them like 20 plus times all over europe theyre good friends now, as are their crew. The people ive met through them too are Like a big family who all have a similar story. Its never a simple ' 'I just like the music' with the faces that follow them across Europe a lot. So alot changed from the moment I 'got it' and now It Means absolutely everything to me YET as I said its not something I just 'Put on' because theres a lot of dark shit and memories tied up in their music for me. I gotta be prepared to go in there!
'purging' is the definition for me. Coincidently I think thats exactly how Colin sounds, too.

so you have a particular personal attachment to their music. not out of recreational interest, but as a particular experience. okay, got it

Its recreational too but it just goes much deeper for me, personally. Thats basically what The Church of Ra is or became because of so many of those similar stories from people. I mean people can get caught up in all kinds of emotions and all forms of release from any music theyre attached too of course but the amount of people who have the same kinda theraputic sessions to Amenra (especially the live shows) is crazy. Seems to draw a certain type of person (or persons needs) to it.

I actually do get people that say that. I mean their music heavily relies on emotion and atmosphere and if youre not feeling either I can imagine it becoming monotomous to an an extent. The heavy/clean/heavy blueprint. Theyve never particularly changed their style up nor will they. For me its almost trance like. The clean sections are beautiful little breathers before being absolutely blugeoned and swept again but I do get how someone wouldnt be into it al all. Totally.

I was jesting, I do get how someone wouldn't find this engaging. But this band floored me on first listen, and all their works mean something special to me.
