it's not specific to shoegaze but it's sort of tied to a lot of it and also is done in a specific way on shoegaze, has to do with the chords ppl usually use for it and the way they alternate the top notes

like, shoegaze is one of the most rhythmically vague genres of the rock pantheon and that's srsly the bit u choose to hold onto? give loveless a once-thru, count how many distinct rhythms that record uses, and then *maybe* listen to some gaze and noise pop that existed beforehand??
or, preferably, quarantine all your gaze takes now and forever to the realm of sweet trip

Hi!
Hmm, that's an interesting question, and made us think. At the very least, we seem to play like that naturally and we don't really think much of it on the spot. We do like things to sound obtuse either in an exaggerated way, or more subtly. It all depends on the song. Maybe it is a reflection of both our personalities in that we can jump from subjects quite easily, get distracted, and are often all over the place, instead of thinking linearly.
Anyway, those are just thoughts. We better stop rambling 🙄😁
