Yeah Batter Up and Lit Me Up are among their best, easily.

It's the perfect direction for this band, and after how long it was since this.
Daisy is like a musical apocalypse half the time, and was an explosive end, or hiatus, for the band. Science Fiction is the perfect evolution from that, and it's appropriate how much time has passed.
It's really impressive how they worked in elements of all their previous releases on Science Fiction, while keeping the consistent tone of seriousness and maturity in Devil & God and Daisy.

451 is a fucking jam and a half. Actually it's at least 2 jams. So goddamn good.
I really liked the first listen but the second was even better. This is probably the first release all year that's floored me. And there still Converge, The National, Chelsea Wolfe, Death Grips, and GY!BE to come in the next 3 months. Insanity.

Yeah same logic was the only song that caught my attention, really wish I could dig this band but I guess it's one of dem tings.

One of the best songs on there yea
Am I crazy or is there a good amount of late 90s/early 2000s Modest Mouse influence at times?
|
| |
I can definitely hear some early 2000's MM imo
I think it might also have the best production of any of their albums, it's so deep and resonant

I don't think anything on this album touches Limousine, You Won't Know, Degausser or Jesus Christ.
agree with this ^

Agreed about the production
Yea they occasionally do that guitar trill thing that Modest Mouse does all the time

Yeah I definitely caught some Modest Mouse influence in there too. Makes sense with them playing tours together recently.

First impressions:
-It's a Brand New album, thank god and not some fucking "i am a nightmare" bs.
-Every time the album goes into a more hardcore section I'm reminded why this is one of my favorite bands and I really wish there were more of them but still
-Daisy reference is a plus
-it sounds like a huge grower in a good way. i'll be listening constantly.
-none of these top any of their best tracks for now.
-early highlights are Out of Mana, Same Logic/Teeth, 137, 451 and Can't Get It Out
-did not like the closer and that's the first time I've felt that for this band

-And I'm really glad they released it as an album with no promotional songs. this was the right way to hear it
-and the guitar slays
