"I could find more if I wanted to, these were just a few that came to mind. "

didnt say they didnt exist. insinuated its pointless. use your brain.

there is no reason to make an hour an sixteen minutes a double album in 2016. Blonde on Blonde and other old albums are an exception because album length and what could be stored physically back then was much different. now days there is absolutely no point. besides, splitting something into two discs doesnt suddenly change anything about it in any way, its still the same album, still the same length, the only difference is basically semantic, aside from getting two cds instead of one. on vinyl it wouldnt even make a difference, it would have to be split into the same amount of lps anyway.

Making something a double album though implies multiple sections and thus makes an album easier to take in and also implies there's a justification for the length. Of course in 2016 an album can be as long as an artist wants but that's not an excuse to make an extremely long album (not that this is extremely long), an artist just needs to know that for most genres standard album length is still below an hour and therefore anything much more than that is almost certainly going to incite comments on length.

It all comes down to personal preference though - all I said before was that I prefer albums to be under an hour long.

two sections.

and no it doesnt make it any different to take in and its only more justified in purely semantic terms. its still meant to be one album. just because the band themselves is like ~here man this is where u can take a break~ instead of you just deciding that yourself or just not at all doesnt change anything really unless u are too feebly minded to ~music~ on your own terms. length does, of course, have impacts on the effectiveness of an album, they can be too long or too short, but that has to do with the content of the album and nothing to do with the length itself, separate from all the other elements of the album.

"an artist just needs to know that for most genres standard album length is still below an hour"

wrong.
