I make returns to Heritage fairly often these days. It's a great Autumn album surprisingly.

Would not even consider Haxprocess as top 5 on Heritage but it is good.
I don't even understand how anyone could rate both this and Heritage as low as 1.5/1

Heritage isn't worthy enough to be on my mp3 player

For me, this album became from a weak 4 a strong 3.5. Don't know if I make it a 3 (not likely) but if time goes by and this is forgotten, I will surely do as well.

It's a weak 4 currently, same as heritage but they cycle between that and a high 3.5 consistently

Heritage is a strong 4 imo. This seems recycled and more hasty, thus the 3.5

They're about the same for me, this is cheesier and more annoying at times but also more engaging and diverse, while heritage is cold and sterile but also more sincere and unpredictable.

I find Heritage to have a pretty warm feel to it, especially with regards to the production.

I can see that, maybe because it was such a shock after Watershed and from the dated sound. It isn't as throwback as a lot of people make it out to be though, it's still Opeth's songwriting style just without a lot of their signature elements or death metal. This brings that back somewhat, especially in Moon Above, Sun Below, but it's awkward at times and seems to try to be catering to fans that didn't approve of Heritage.

That's exactly how I feel about this album. It's taken away a lot of the more adventures compositional ideas and musicianship heard on Heritage in favour of focussing more on melody in order appeal to the fans that were put off by Heritage's less conventional, more loosely structured direction. Feels like a step back to me but at the same time I kinda understand why they did it.

If they're trying to balance out doing their own thing by abandoning the dm but also trying to keep as many fans as possible, I feel like this is too little too late for them and their next releases will get less and less attention. Though that might've also happened if they just stuck with their original sound so who knows.
