Funny you bring up Animal Companionship Boney, I've been revisiting that album a bit recently and it still holds up. If anything it's grown some

Not in the ballpark of this album quality wise though, this is a couple of tiers up

Man I wish Will Oldham had provided backing vox on more than just the first three tracks.

He is the GOAT backing vocalist agreed

The moment in "Carissa" where he echo's Kozelek's "gonna go to Ohio" is spine-tingling
|
| |
carissa is a perfect song honestly
its the perfect level of wordy oversharing kozelek
|

I can imagine Koz doing a cover of Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe and making it sound more like Have You Forgotten

So I do love this thing all the way through, but I gotta say "Carissa" kinda outstrips the rest, I mean that's a totally perfect song.

"Micheline" is amazing too of course but the stories on that one don't hit quite as hard.
|
| |
could have put this on my "albums where the bookends are best" list

It actually wouldn’t make my top 5 - Micheline, Watched the Film, Ben’s MF, Jim Wise...and strangely because I’m an old cunt no doubt Mother’s Love would fill out the five.
Carissa is a great typical Koz tune - but my oh my is it a typical Koz tune. 6th best.

Hearing him sing Mother’s Love live made it for me, amazing

Album Rating: 5.0
Carissa is a complex/weird emotion song - think Mother’s Love and
Micheline bring the real emotional beef

Album Rating: 4.5
Hm, maybe it's just that I haven't heard many of those "typical" Koz tunes yet? "Carissa" doesn't remind me particularly of anything on DCH or Ghosts and it hit like a ton of bricks on first spin and hasn't let up.

The others you mention are def my other highlights though "Song Remains" leaves me a bit cold sometimes. This is actually a bit of a lighter 4.5, I prefer Ghosts and DCH both so far.
