The instrumental section of this band sucks since The Eternal Cowboy. And this band never appealed that much to me either.

really Transgender, Two Coffins, and Paralytic States are the only songs on this i love but my respect boner for Laura Jane combined with the concept of the album are what makes this a easy 4 for me or whatever i rated it

This album is just so uplifting. Everytime I find myself in a shit mood, dwelling on the past or what the future might hold, I just turn on this album and I invariably feel better. It's just got that "Fuck you, I will live life by my own terms, and everything will be okay" attitude that's been missing from a lot of punk in recent years.

Awesome review, but a few things still really should be revised. Firstly, "transgendered" is not a word, and a vast majority of transgender people would find the use of it offensive. The proper term is transgender (as in, Laura Jane Grace is a TRANSGENDER woman, not a transgendered woman). It's something you are, not something you do to somebody!

Also, any mention of the name Tom Gabel should be avoided. If you need to make reference to Laura's work in previous albums, you still should refer to her as Laura, even if she "wasn't a woman" when the band released those albums. It's another thing that a vast majority of transgender people would find offensive, and Laura would undoubtably be bothered by it as well.

In fact, any reference to Laura "making the full switch" is a bit sketchy... it's more her coming out as a woman that's important than her "making the switch" to being a woman.

I know it seems nit-picky, but these are all problems that are important enough to change in your review. Don't get me wrong - this is a great review and the positive meaning behind it is clear - but if you want to make it even better, you really should consider changing some of those things.

Pattycake, I think that's going a bit far. I agree with you about using the term "transgendered", but everything else is perfectly fine to include in the review.

@pattycake

plz don't throw the word 'offensive' so easily. agreed on the second point (he should just write Tom Gabel in quotes or something), but the first is just being overly sensitive, and anyone offended by that is actively looking for things to get offended by. It's still a mistake, but on experience no transgender person would make a fuzz about it.

"In fact, any reference to Laura 'making the full switch' is a bit sketchy... it's more her coming out as a woman that's important than her 'making the switch' to being a woman."

- Yeah but she just recently had the sex reassignment surgery. Again, too nitpick-y. And the reviewer never implied that Laura 'switched' (?) to a woman, and that that was the focus of the album; he said that the surgery gave new life to a seasoned songwriter. The album especifically adresses how's life as a transwoman, not about being a woman (I mean, her life could have been different if she were a ciswoman...)

If the reviewer decides to change the stuff, very cool of him, but it's not going to make that much of a difference.

P.D: Sorry for the bad english lol.

And I still haven't given this a spin, smh.

The first criticism is legitimate because trangendered really isn't a term.

yeah the word transgendered doesn't exist but pseudo-freudian analysis on why people use it is not going to help

"Pseudo-Freudian"

You're giving us too much credit. It's just the English language.
