bro semena is such a fucking devastating track like it just sucks your soul out. idk i mean it's obviously super simple but the melody works great and the texture on the synth is incredible

i think that's part of why a lot of people didn't like it as much actually is that it's so much more simplistic than their other stuff, rather than making like these really complex layered tracks they sort of let the feeling and atmosphere of things take the forefront even if that meant the track was super simple, and it creates a really incredible experience imo

stand outs for me are Reach for the Dead, Cold Earth, Palace Posy, Jacquard Causeway

New Seeds and Nothing Is Real are by far my favourites tho

honestly album is still very good its just.... not as good as music has the rights and geo and thats all i mean when i say its average. some of it is average for their standards. not for other bands standards. its still way better than most things everyone else has done but it just doesnt hold a candle to mhtrtc or geo

cause they were trying to create something very different from mhtrtc and geo and quickly dismissing it cause it doesn't try to accomplish what those albums do is kind of ridiculous
expectations mean a lot, sure but there's no right or wrong way to have expectations affect your perception of an album. moreover, album expectations aren't like pre-meditated.

I don't see a lot of people going "if it does/doesn't sound like [insert], then I'm not gonna like it!" That'd be silly.

no its not. like cyg said theres no right or wrong way to have expectations of music. yours are different than some.

trying to do something different doesnt make it good.

how is it not ridiculous to be like "wow this doesn't sound like their other stuff guess it must be shitty"

obviously no one actually goes into it thinking it has to sound like x or i won't like it but when ive heard multiple people say something along the lines of "it doesn't have any boc bangers like their other albums" its not hard to figure out what they were going into it thinking

dude use your brain

not sounding good isn't a symptom of it not sounding like their other stuff (for the record it doesnt sound that much different from their other stuff anyways)

not sounding good to some people is a stand alone factor and when thats the case obviously they are going to wish it was more like their material that they actually enjoyed.

your logic is that everyone who didnt like heritage by opeth just didnt like it cuz it didnt sound like every other opeth album

which granted may be the case for some people but for others they don't like it because they just dont fucking like it

trying to do something new isn't inherently 'good' nor is it inherently 'bad' and no one has to subject it to a different set of standards just because they were trying something new.

go ahead and try something new. maybe they'll like it maybe they won't. thats it.

Same. I remember it being far more enjoyable when listening as a whole piece instead of individual tracks, so I'll set aside some time tonight. I wonder if my opinion on it has changed at all
