Umm guys, Earth is definitely the best season.
Earth>Fire>Change>>>>>>>>>>>>>Water>>Spirits>>>Air
Fire definitely had some sweet episodes, but I fucking loved the narrative of Earth. Season 3 had a lot of sweet episodes but many episodes, including good ones, weren't really relevant to advancing the narrative in any way. 'The Southern Raiders' was a great episode and great characterization for Katara, and it was needed to resolve her arc, but if she acted differently, literally nothing would have changed. Whereas Zuko's metamorphosis was a huge part of Season 2's conflict (hence standalone episodes like 'Zuko Alone'), especially at the finale. I love when character arcs overlap with the plot the way it did in Season 2.

As if that's a problem. I love the little filler episodes, they develop the characters A LOT.
Also, there's way too many ">" between Change and Water. Water was amazing dude.

Haha, yea Water is pretty sweet. I love all the seasons. However, I'm so surprised how much of a step up Change was as opposed to Spirits.

And no I agree with you, Ozai wasn't the most interesting villain but he served his purpose. He was built up as a mythic figure that Aang was so scared of, which worked for his growth, but when it came down to it, he was no match for Aang's Avatar State. It sort of underscores that the central conflict of Aang isn't defeating Ozai but accepting being the Avatar.
I think Unalaq actually had a more interesting motive, but it was never explained really. There are hints in his dialogue that he won't destroy the world but reshape it as the Anti-Avatar, and there are hints as to what his motives are (as a spiritual zealot, in contrast to Korra who is remarkably unspiritual despite being the bridge)..
Unalaq and Vaatu were probably never going to split; Vaatu is more powerful with a human "host," and besides, he's not a spirit of evil, just chaos. There's literally no reason for him to destroy Unalaq, just like he didn't destroy Wan after Wan separated them (originally).
But the exposition of his motivations was badly handled and unclear, so he ended up being a pretty bad villain. I agree with you there.

if I gave numbers to each season, the top 3 would be like 10, 9.9, and 9.7, water would be like 8.0, spirits would be like 7.7, and change would be like 7.5
Pretty big amount of >'s was warranted from my perspective. I liked Water but the execution wasn't quite there. Hard to explain it, but episodes like 'Jet' and 'The Blue Spirit' had a lot of potential that they never really reached.

I just liked Ozai a lot because he were realistic motives: Motives that can and have happened in real life. The desire for power
and to expand in an aggressive manner. Actually, I liked Vaatu a lot too because he was intimidating. Unalaq simply wasn't and
he would pretty much be the means to an end which felt disappointing

Fair enough. Everything Unalaq does can be seen as a misguided spiritual zealot, the only problem is they emphasized him getting power without every questioning him on it, so they made it seem like he wanted power for the sake of power (even if that meant destroying the world from the protag's POV) when he probably wanted power for the sake of creating a new spiritual age. I don't think that's really any less believable of a motive than Ozai's, but the execution was bad. In fact, I'd say Season 2's biggest issue was just bad execution on its plot lines, which were good on their own.
I don't blame you for seeing him as a bad villain, but I personally feel like he was a good villain with really botched execution

I have two friends who are deeply engrossed in this Bender story. Seems fairly interesting although I've only seen some of a cartoon and then my friends talking about the complexities of the storyline with the benders.

The first show (Avatar: TLA) isn't a super complex story but everything about it is just perfectly done, especially the characterization. There's a reason it has a cult following even though it's nominally a kid's show.
The sequel series (this: The Legend of Korra) is more complex with its intertwining storylines, and it's probably more mature in what it tackles (e.g. season one is about class struggles, season three is about anarchy), but at the cost that it doesn't have as great characterization.
Not sure what your taste in TV is but Avatar: The Last Airbender is up there with Breaking Bad for my favorite show ever; take what you want from that

Yea ATLA is one of my favs too. The story itself isn't THAT complex but it's themes and characters certainly are. It's not just a
kid's show imo and basically anyone can enjoy it. But about season 1 you can't forget terrorism(pretty much what Amon was
doing the whole time) and the murder-suicide part.

tbh my least favorite part of the trailer, it almost feels like fanservice how all these old characters are being brought back. Like Zuko's role didn't need him to be Zuko except to get advice as the Avatar's counsel. Hopefully Toph is more relevant to Korra's inner conflict

That trailer looks sick, I'm so glad they pushed the release date to Friday.
That discussion was a very interesting read. This is also one of my all time favorite shows and my ranking would probably go something like this:
Earth: 9.7
Fire: 9.5
Change: 9.3
Water: 8.8
Air: 8.5
Spirits: 8

Water and Air were both so well done in terms of tone and plot build-up with their finales being among my all time favorite episodes of the shows. But there's too many episodes that simply don't live up to their potential, and the later seasons usually just had more going on.
All the Zuko and Iroh stuff in season 2 is among my favorite of the series, especially with how it all culminates in the amazing finale, one of the bleakest and darkest of the series. Earth might be tied with Fire tbh.
Fire was pretty much perfect and I loved all the Zuko stuff in the second half starting with the midseason finale. I loved how everything concluded too.
I felt that Spirits had a lot of problems, especially in the second half but it was still enjoyable overall and a great season. Am very curious how this new season will live up to these, am hoping it will be in the top 4.

Even as a villain I've always loved Zuko. He may have tried to kill Team Avatar a lot, but even then there was always something about him that seemed good. The fact that he kept saying how he was banished and abused by his father really made you feel for him. And Iroh is just...well...Iroh. He can you not love that guy :D
Fire and Change are definitely my favorites. Goddamn Change is so good.
