From interviews it actually seems like Vai accidentally discouraged Devy because Devy saw how much work Vai put into his craft and just wasn't willing to put in the work and practice to get to and stay at Vai's level. Thankfully he makes up for it by being a creative mofo. He's still a shredder though, just like Corgan, and maybe even Cantrell.



And the whole Mustaine/Metallica situation is a case of he-said/she-said hearsay. I'm sure there's a little bit of truth in both sides of the argument. Lars and Hetfield have giant egos and Mustaine's ego was probably one giant ego too many.
