Tmobotron, that has to be one of the most illogical (serious[?]) posts of such length that I've ever read on this site.

Basically he wants 0.0 and 0.5 back. The rest was just idk.

Nah, didn't mean that. I mean that because 1 is the lowest rating, albums don't really end up with a universal rating much lower than this. Even an album like BMTH - Suicide Silence Cut Up, which seems universally hated is at a 1.8. Take into consideration some white knighting fanboys on here and you've got yourself a really shitty rating.
Your point that the 1 is the mode but that doesn't matter because it has nothing to do with the average on here is wrong.

Yeah but people here are stupid, they don't want math. They scoff at math-users. And you stress too much over a matter of scale. There is not too much difference between a scale of 0-5 and one of 1-5. People will know when an album just dropped out of some talentless hack's ass. That's the beauty of a community site.

Right I get that, I'm not saying it discredits the average rating or anything. But Aso is saying that a 2.1 is way different from a 0.5. And that's true, but there probably wouldn't ever be an album that's rated extremely close to a 1 after so many votes just because no one can ever vote below 1 to balance out the votes above 1 and especially the fanboys rating it 5. That doesn't mean an album should never be rated a 1 or a 0.5.

Why the fuck is this discussion regarding ratings still going. It's irrelevant.

Tmobotron. Bro. Your logic is faulty to the extreme. As Deviant says, way too much thought is going into this so I will limit myself to only pointing out a few things here.
There are currently 171 votes. 61 does not make up the majority of 171. Therefore, 1 would not represent the majority of users. I'd like to think that the sputnik average rating is calculated as the type of "average" rating it is for a reason.
Okay, you brought up a "universally hated album" already - 1.8. Look at the average rating of another one of these - Lulu (I'll save you time it's 1.4). That has much more votes than this does. This proves that you can indeed get very close to a 1.
2.2 much more accurately represents the average score than a 1 or a 0.5. Period.
Also:
You talk about "fanboys" who are giving out these phantom 5s. What about the "haters" who give it a 1?
If someone rated an album a 1, the overall rating could never be a 5, because the highest anyone can rate it is 5, and nothing can ever bring the average back up to a 5. You aren't taking into consideration people who would give this album a 5.5 or a 6 if they could.
etc.

Don't worry. I'm done. I just felt it would be rude not to give a reply after all that even though no one ever asked him "to elaborate" in the first place.

Well okay, so no number exactly represents a majority of the users, but it still makes sense for so many users to be represented by a low review which explains the reasoning. An album that has so much weight in 1 ratings should probably have a low review to explain them.
Should Lulu then be rated a 1.5? Is a 0.5 still not a legitimate rating for that? I'm not trying to claim a 0.5 better represents the average rating, that's obviously not true. Just that a 0.5 review is completely legitimate under these circumstances and they do represent a large amount of the user base's opinion. A discrepancy between a review score and an average score doesn't automatically mean that review is inaccurate.
