A couple of these songs, specifically the first and last, are just mean-spirited and ugly. I used to loooove this band, and there's definitely some remarkable stuff on here, but the following two albums are where it's at.

"Dead Goon" is without a doubt my favorite on here and my 2nd favorite Bungle overall.
So what if it's mean spirited? That doesn't make it any lesser.

It makes it lesser to me. Personal difference. It's a song about a mentally challenged kid who's bullied and then hangs himself while masturbating, and not exactly told with sympathy. Musically, it's great, but find some real targets.

It's not really mean spirited though. It's kind of attacking the kids who teased him and painting him as the victim.

I wish I heard it that way, too. It sounds like it has a "look at this freakshow" glee to me, but we can toss that up to a difference in perception. Anyway, I think this is the weakest Bungle album because it still has a bit of this early 90s funk rock frat boy annoyance, but I like that it also probably made some of that frat boy audience's heads explode. 3 outta 5.

90s funk rock is awesome dude. Do you even Primus or Rage Against the Machine?
|

My fave band is Fishbone. Love Primus. Still, I think a segment of that time and culture hasn't aged well.
