Uninformed opinion? I liked the new Raekwon album a lot, it doesn't mean it can't have any flaws. Raekwon was hardly exploring new territory on that album. Saying shit like "lol, what an idiot" does more to make you look like an insufferable douchebag than someone with great taste.

Idnuf, saying that Raekwon's rapping the same on his new one as he has for 15 years does sound uninformed to me because he's not rapping about mafioso stuff at all, which is pretty much all he did from the first Cuban Linx up until this album -- so it's more like the first time he changed up his style in 15 years (plus his flow is much more based around the off-beat than typical for him)



also the beats sound really nothing like anything else out there right now (if anything, they're a modernized version of the kung-fu shit that RZA was doing on 36 and LS -- but still sounding almost nothing like those records)



not saying it's a perfect album, and you're certainly entitled to your opinion, I just could not disagree more.

@Inveigh Thanks man, I definitely understand what you mean now. I suppose I have an issue with generalizing all "hardcore" rap (hate that tag) subjects as the same thing. I tend to split between that and conscious rap and make more distinctions between subject matter in the conscious realm. It's true that he isn't doing the Mafioso thing, but in my mind it ends up being categorized right next to it, if you know what I mean.

As far as beats go, generic was really the wrong word. I really meant that they don't have that much impact for me. They lack that memorability that the beats on Cuban Linx have (at least for me). Overall the album is really good, and is one of the best I've heard this year so far, I just don't think it will have the staying power of Cuban Linx or even the second one.

Really most of the issues with the understanding were because my writing was designed to annoy Hawks, which I guess it didn't. Totally respect your taste man, I didn't mean to come off as an idiot. Rae is my 3rd most played artist on Last FM and it doesn't have anything near all my plays for Cuban Linx from over the years.
