I referred to it as 'Homo', the capitalisation of the first letter is key here, arguably rendering the usage of such an abbreviation significantly less amusing. All in the eye of the beholder though, so glad you got a kick out of it.

I would like to state on record that my use of 'Homo' was neither a slight at the gay community, a dig at Bjork's own sexual orientation, or used to mock Bjork's less than perfect grasp of the English language, by not referring to the full and grammatically incorrect album title. You can never be too careful these days.

"I'm slowly coming around to that way of thinking, which when I was first getting into Bjork seemed like an impossibility. The quiet understated brilliance of this sneaks up on you over time."
Again, you've pretty much described m,y experience to a T. When I first started getting into Bjork, Homogenic hit me instantly, it was unique but also instantly catchy and imo comparatively accessible. I liked Vespertine a lot, but it definitely didn't "stick" to the surface right away. As time went on though, I found myself wanting to revisit Vespertine more often than Homogenic, and while I still love Homogenic, something about Vespertine just jells perfectly, like every single song fits perfectly into the larger context of the album (even Frosti). I have a couple nitpicks with Homogenic, but I don't think I could point out a single flaw in Vespertine at this point.
I actually had the exact same experience with Radiohead many years ago, between OK Computer (= Homogenic) and Kid A (= Vespertine). I love 'em both but Kid A is just flawless.

Good comparison, if only for the fact I definitely had the same experience with that pairing too.

This needed a cozy winter night listen to fully blow me away back in the day. Don't know why it took that long though. Flawless album and in my top 3 of best albums ever.

Kid A was always superior to OKC to me, but I see why it would take time to get into it

You're right, this album has a late fall / early winter vibe to it that makes it feels so appropriate when you're bundled up inside and it's dark at 5:30 p.m. already.
Then again, I listened to it not too long ago while cutting the grass in 90° weather, sun blazing, and it was still fantastic.

One of my friends in uni used to pronounce her name Berk and while that’s closer to the pronunciation than Byork arguably, I can’t see any logic in how he got the vowel sound right but dropped the J. My best guess is he saw the “it’s like jerk” video and took it literally, I.e. she didn’t say “jyerk”, hence “Berk”. Taking theories from any cunning linguists roaming about.

I know someone who pronounced it "Buh-zhork".
It's hard to even type phonetically. But imagine the "zh" sound similar to the "ss" sound in the word "fissue."
This is why I always find a YouTube video of the artist being introduction on a national talk show or something before I dare utter them aloud myself.

Vespertine is the coldest of them all

The album art looks so wintry but it was shot in the summer heat

I'm surprised by the high marks, I figured Björk would be more divisive.

Beautiful album, her best for me.

'I figured Björk would be more divisive.'
Her early(er) stuff is almost ubiquitously praised, and it's pretty accessible for the most part (even the slightly more experimental/arty releases like Homogenic and this).
From Medulla on out, though, her discog *is* pretty divisive, more and more so with every subsequent release, it seems.
