So anyway, I like this album. Which is weird because I hate country and I hate her lyrics but fuck she's catchy. Ugh.

Eh, it's not country at all. The ballads of this are pretty fucking boring though. You know, those hookless ballads that do nothing but bloat the album while making her seem all gentle and deep. And the lyrics of the songs I can remember aren't really bad, but I acknowledge that that is probably selective bias since her 'better' songs that I remember probably don't have as bad lyrics

Her highest rated album has a 3.6, that's not really overpraising.

haven't listened to Red

the response scares me off, but even on here there were quite a few tracks I just remember yawning at

-------

maybe it's your pre/misconception that Taylor Swift is a bad artist. This is a pretty good album and is being praised as such

It's not near as good as this but there are a few great tracks sprinkled in here and there.

My friend owns the CD, and he/his family play it in the car once in a while. I didn't really like it (hated the tracks with the Snow Patrol guy and Ed Sheeran, and I hated 22 or whatever). I fucking love I Knew You Were Trouble though, also I quite enjoy the lead single (which I hated just like any sane person but it grew on me). It'd only be a 2.5 based on what I've heard though

"I could understand maybe thinking this is good, but I just don't see anything great, excellent or superb about her work, let alone classic."

opinions. what you think might make her music 'good' is enough for someone else to call her work excellent or even classic.

I liked the Snow Patrol one a bit, not so much the one with Ed Sheeran. 22 is awful, only song I skipped on the entire album. State of Grace is definitely my favorite though. I'd like I knew You Were Trouble more if it weren't for some really painful and cheesy moments (like the spoken part, seriously why?)

Earlier stuff is obviously, but nowadays there's really only a few glimmers of country influence.

Yeah I'm not sure why she insists on these spoken parts. Maybe the lead single's was ok because it already seemed like she put zero effort into it. I don't like Trouble's verses much either (they absolutely do not flow with the chorus) but somehow I just don't care. The chorus is all I need, and the rest manages not to ruin the chorus, which is enough. Also I changed my mind, in that the baby dubstep in the chorus actually works surprisingly well. I'll give State of Grace a listen and maybe the Snow Patrol one a relisten (but I specifically remember saying aloud, 'Wow the Snow Patrol guy does nothing for the song' when I listened to it)

And tbh I don't see her as a pop-country amalgamation. Maybe her albums, but her songs seem pretty pop or country. I just ignore the country ballads

Yeah I completely loathe brostep and anybody that uses it or tries to incorporate it but the way she used it was actually pretty cool.
