I'm sorry guys. FWIW, it's only because I think this could have legitimately been a 4.5-5. I still have to give it a few more listens but something about this is really understated, but in a bad way. I can't articulate what quite yet besides repeating that it doesn't feel very "full" to me. Maybe it's the delay-ridden clean guitars that don't sound meaty enough (compared to whatever is standard distortion), combined with various things like the singer's kind of high-pitched singing that make this feel, like I said before, a little watery.

I mean I don't mind high pitched vocals but they really lack the power/punch which seems to be a theme with this band

but moments like the vocal bridge of choke are sooooooo perfect
and I quite admired their focus on instrumentation especially considering that this album came in a time were vocals were the clear and only focus in my music taste (of course, that's probably why I didn't like it so much then).
