This album’s average being only 0.1 over Spiritual Instinct is insane.

Instead, we are left with an average, one-dimensional album which promises so much yet delivers so precious little. With a heaping of variance in the vocals, more careful acoustic/electric guitar transitions, more memorable riffs, and bass and drums that actually deserve to be mentioned, then maybe Alcest would be a band to marvel at. However, for the time being, Alcest is yet another band which promises so much, yet delivers close to nothing.

The electric guitars on this album scream black metal, but the majority of it is shoegaze, and not very good shoegaze, either, from what I've gathered.

2007. I'm illiterate in metal, but this doesn't seem like metal. Which is something I've noticed about a lot of the best metal, so I'll throw in a bet that this has the slightest chance of being the best thing ever made.

Yeah as a whole I consider this band more shoegaze than metal, but I guess that’s where the “blackgaze” comes in.

Still think it’s wild that Neige (supposedly) made this album without being consciously aware of shoegaze. Convergent evolution.

Yeah that’s why I said consciously - certainly this does sound a lot like an even more gazed out Siamese Dream. Still neat. Also interesting comparing this to Shelter, the production and songwriting of which obviously sounds much more like actual shoegaze bands.
