"i wasn't saying his opinion wasn't valid, i'm just saying there is not going to be much value to his criticism. perspective is everything in music."
that's flawed logic; I realized I'm not well-rehearsed in the genre but that doesn't mean I haven't heard enough of it to figure out the good from the bad
for the record, I'm not even criticizing the vocals (which are apparently pretty polarizing), I happen to like them when they work. On "I Could Do Whatever..." there were some stellar tracks that were insanely addictive but there were also plenty of mediocre tracks. These guys are capable of writing really creatively but they're inconsistent, that's my beef with snowing

do you listen to music in this genre?
|
| |
Yeah I do, but for some reason couldn't quite get into it. I'm chalking it up to an age difference? Like, if I would've heard this 10 years ago, I probably wouldn't liked it a whole lot more rather than hearing it past my 30's. It's definitely not bad at all, I was more curious as to why it was so praised.

Snowing kinda solidified a lot of the classic emo revival tropes we see so often today; exasperated, yelled vocals, twinkly guitars, and songs that are meant to jam i.e. breakdowns n gang vox. What sets this apart, in my opinion, are the vocals and lyrics on this thing. Galm's yells are what I strive for stylistically as a singer, and his lyrics read without the context of the music are incredibly poetic. I'll get a completely different interpretation of them just by reading them off paper, rather than in the context of the song.

You know what, man. I take back what I said, I'm currently listening to this now and taking it for what it is. I also think when I initially checked these albums out, I kinda wrote it off because I had "already heard it all before years and years ago", so I never gave it my undivided attention. But man, I was wrong, I'm hearing a lot of influences (Bear Vs Shark, Capt Jazz, early Cursive, etc) that I grew up loving. I'm gonna have to run through the entire discography and change these ratings lol.
