This thing was bearable, but only in the most conservative use of the word.

It's nothing groundbreaking, but there are some great tracks on here. I mean, especially if you like death.

Noosphere is so fucking alpha. Every time I hear it I always think it's Cynic for a little while.

How is this album not in everyone's top 10 list of 2009? It's like Focus-era Cynic mixed with Symbolic-era Death. Granted, I could live with just the Schuldiner-eque vocals and dump the really deep growls and the robo-vocals (because those should be exclusive to Cynic!), but the whole album is pretty amazing anyway. Where has this band been hiding? I just discovered them in Terrorizer, listed like #80 for the year, or something like that! Definitely top 10 material!

Because you clearly haven't listened to most metal that came out in 2009 or you're new to the genre. I admit, these guys are good, but they're FARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR from unique.

Not new to the genre. Been listening to metal since 1990. But I must admit that I've been removed from the scene for quite a few years. However, this album is a lot more unique than you think. How many other bands are this heavy AND this progressive? There are a few, but just a handful. If you know of other bands similar to Obscura that have emerged since 2000 (other than the obvious ones like Mastodon), please let me know and I'll check them out.

I don't listen to too much death metal, but these guys just hit the spot for me.

I listen to a good amount of death metal and I still love these guys. This is one of my favorite death metal albums actually.
