"uh oh if the rym post-punk albums list went down this could take even longer!"

Fuck you, you all are bitches. You all wouldn't know post-punk if it slapped you in the face and left you for the fishes.

I think people failed to realize that list I made was an "introduction" for newcomers to the genre

I'll make a more kvlt list soon for more experienced listeners to the genre

"Bitch, please, what's with the entry-level stuff."

Ive always wondered if "entry Level stuff" meant the best stuff. Most of the time entry level means the well known classics of a genre to me. The charts on Rateyourmusic seem to cover most of those for every genre. Are those albums rated so highly because they are the best or are they just the most popular ones? I mean are there really much better bands than Joy Division, Television, Talking Heads, etc as far as post punk goes in your opinion or are they just more unknown?

It's all subjective. But Joy Division, Wire, The Cure, etc. are all entry level stuff

Yea I know its all subjective but most "entry level stuff" is rated the highest. So does the fact that they are just popular make them entry level or do you think the stuff that isnt "entry level" is actually better? Not just for post punk but I see this "entry level" thing alot.

For example if youre just getting into black metal (like I am) most of the time people are going to throw Emperor, Dissection, Immortal, Burzum, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Agalloch, Ulver, Bathory, Wolves In The Throne Room, Drudkh, Enslaved, Weakling, Windir, Nokturnal Mortem, Deathspell Omega, Summoning, Moonsorrow, etc at you.

Those are the highest rated black metal albums on RYM with 3.9-4.0 ratings. Panopticon has a 3.5 rating. I mean why would people rec mediocre stuff if you're just starting out with a genre? Arent they going to rec you the best stuff first? Thus making "entry level" the best? Or again is it just more popular? Obviously you cant just go by average ratings on some websites without listening yourself but Im just curious.

Dude, calling a band entry-level doesn't mean they're mediocre.

It usually means they're well-known enough in the genre (that you really should be able to figure them out on your own) or they're more accessible in sound, which, again, isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Yea thats what I figured Vesper, but entry level seems to have a bad connotation to it. Again most entry level stuff just seems to be the highest rated wherever you look. So are those albums popular and highly acclaimed because they are actually the best the genre has to offer? Its all subjective I know and Im sure people who've been listening to black metal for years dont want to just see the same 10 bands listed over and over.
