"they tended to make their albums TOO long"
And there's the reason why some people don't like SG. Not that it really
bothers me, but I get why many would feel awkward about that.
I've noticed that most SG fans have AiC as their 2nd fave, while the
opposite tends to hold true as well. Nirvana tends to oscillate between
the Top 3 spots and PJ is least popular.
I'm one of the very few who likes PJ the most on the site.
And yeah Ars, we know you loathe PJ, no need to get into that again.

L7 is my 3rd favorite grunge band haha. But yeah, for me Soundgarden is #1 and Alice in Chains is #2.

Yeah, this review sucks. I believe Inbred and Nero are working on doing a discog.

So people can wrongfully bash Down on the Upside's second half? Ugh.
|

Learn to cope bro. Ten is my fave grunge album and people bash it all the time. If I can cope with that, then you can cope with DotU getting some criticism.

But Down on the Upside is my favorite grunge album lol. I could always write a review for it...
|

It'd be sweet, yeah. I suggest you shoutbox Nero tho, before you do that.

Okay. good idea.

"I've noticed that most SG fans have AiC as their 2nd fave, while the

Thats because they m/ harder than Nirvana and PJ
|
| |
I'm still having a hard time figuring out why AiC seems to be most popular on the site, seeing as they didn't achieve the degree of fame Nirvana and PJ did back in the 90's. I guess PJ's popularity has dwindled over the years, while AiC's seems to have risen. SG doesn't seem that popular these days, even though they did achieve substantial popularity in the early 90's.

Fame has little to do with quality. Things get famous because they're easier to appeal to the masses.
Nirvana and PJ had poppier elements, that's why they're more famous than AiC and Soundgarden.
Also, AiC is only the most popular grunge band on here because so many people love Dirt. When it comes to discographies as a whole, Soundgarden is way more praised.
|
| |
Yeah, Nirvana specifically clicked fastest with the masses. Ten rode the
wave after Nevermind caught on, but PJ alienated their fans over time
after that. SG didn't really become popular until 1994, when SUK came
out, and I believe AiC became popular by 1992, when Dirt came out.

Dirt came out in 1992, Alice in Chains first became popular with 1991 though when the song "Man in the Box" rode the Nevermind wave as well.
|
| |
Well Facelift came out in 1990, but yeah, they slightly rose once Nevermind came out. But I'm pretty sure their popularity peaked with Dirt.

Believe it or not, their first and highest charting in the Hot 100 was on Jar of Flies, so I'd have to say Jar of Flies.
"No Excuses" at #48.

Man in the Box was a minor MTV hit even before Nevermind, as was Jesus Christ Pose, I believe.
And I'm pretty sure most folks on here believe AiC has a more consistent discog and hit the highest points (although I disagree with the latter), than SG.

@SitarHero: People criticize and ignore Facelift, Sap, their s/t, and the DuVall stuff all of the time.
So many times have I heard "yeah don't care about Sap" or "their s/t is boring" which always makes me sad since those are my two favorites.

Don't care about Sap [2]
Facelift does rule though.
