Interesting that it takes bands like Kreator and Megadeth 2 years to release above-average/excellent albums whereas it takes Metallica good 15 years to produce sub par ReLoad, disastrous St Anger and average DM... this record is just so bland compared to comebacks of the above-mentioned bands imho

I agree, it's not the album that redeems Metallica as the greatest thrash act in the world. However, it's good and keeps Metallica quite relevant in today's metal scene. Some awesome tunes on this. I'd say there's more to praise about this album than there is to be critical about.
