Well that's an out-of-nowhere comparison, unless I'm missing something here lol.

This, Warning and Insomniac are the Green Day takeaway albums. But I have a bit of nostalgia for American Idiot once in a blue moon

Everything up to and including American Idiot is excellent imo. After that yeah it's not great. Even Revolution Radio which I really liked at first but now I'm just eh about it.

"You don't even like Warning?"
I actually do like Warning, was super into it when it came out. It's not as good as the few before it, but it's what I consider to be their last really good album. And even that assessment might be kinda over the top because there's only a few songs I ever really revisit like Minority, Macy's Day Parade, and Blood Sex and Booze.

american idiot and 21st century breakdown are my top 2 from them mostly due to immense levels of nostalgia even considering the many flaws of the latter but i do think compositionally american idiot is at least on par with a lot of their 90s albums if not even better

I'll never knock someone for digging one album over another because of nostalgia. I disagree obviously but your opinion is every bit as valid as mine, even if I think AI is overrated and 21st Century Breakdown is utter shit. It's just a totally different band honestly, I'll bring up Fleetwood Mac as a comparison. Great band but they have two totally different eras of music, they started off as a Cream-like British electric blues band with the amazing Peter Green killing it on the guitar, but were obviously a 100% different band by the time they got famous and dropped their self titled and Rumours. I consider there to be two Green Day eras, the era right up to Warning, and everything since. And I find most people are usually into one or the other.
No disprespect to people who love modern Green Day. Dookie was my world back in like 95-97. I played that cassette into oblivion and knew every song by heart. I tried my best to enjoy AI but I just felt like it was such pandering garbage. Just my view of course.

yea it definitely feels like a different band on those two. really all depends on when someone first hears the band’s music and where they started

"You can get a Revolution Radio all you want, smother yourself in that album and let it give you life. I found it to be the exact same quality of "meh, this isn't godawful but it sure as fuck isn't good" as I've reacted to every album of theirs since Warning.
Even if we're gonna agree that's a good album (and I don't agree), you're insane if you think anyone considers 2010s Green Day to be awesome. They've been harshly criticized on every album this decade (and for damn good reason---they're mostly shit)."

revolution radio is fun. some songs on there i still listen to whenever i jam green day but yea its still like 8th place in their discog and uno dos and tre are so overwhelmingly mediocre that yea 2010s green day is far from “awesome”
