I'm blessed with a full time, laptop based job (doing a PhD) during which I can listen to music pretty much nonstop. And during breakfast and evening reading that is room for 10 albums a day, five days a week, so I can listen to many new albums whilst revisiting albums I love too. So happy about that because I totally get the dilemma of new vs ones you like.

That’s my career goals right there ^

yeah ive listened to the most music i ever had this year since ive been studying remotely. been a good year for music discovery thats for sure

"Yeah I think so too, I think they only work on it when inspiration strikes.
I really like that approach by the way. Don't want to rush them."
It makes it feel like much more of a hobby/passion than a career and there is something really genuine and authentic about that. Especially from a band that could easily make a career out of their music due to their popularity and influence.

I lose interest in artists who release multiple albums a year constantly. My ideal gap between albums of bands I love is sound 4 years. Ample time to perfect but not so long that you hey disheartened and wonder what the fuck their status is
|
| |
I see comments all the time on reddit and youtube and shit about how an artist fell off cause they haven't released an album in over a year
|
| |
buffoons!

Yeah exactly Pots, that's 100% what I feel too. Genuine, authentic and also passionate or with a sense of urgency, like they felt they had something to say or add, like they felt it was important or they just felt very good about the music or something.
That's so silly Colton. Puts a lot of pressure on the artists too.

ten years from now I don't know if releasing LPs will even be the preferred method for mainstream artists, I could see multiple EPs being more profitable or something like that

Yes, or """""""playlists"""""""" on Spotify and other streaming services.
|
| |
I could see that. Multiple artists "collaborating" on a playlist that they release together, but really they're not collaborating, just throwing their own songs on it
that would be super lame I hope that doesn't happen

"ten years from now I don't know if releasing LPs will even be the preferred method for mainstream artists, I could see multiple EPs being more profitable or something like that"
Single format is already gaining more and more traction

And it’s absolutely fucking shit.

Duh

Wait until your told otherwise, and you just don’t understand ‘the youth’

I think it's safe to say that in this corner of the internet we like proper albums a lot.
|

"Wait until your told otherwise, and you just don’t understand ‘the youth’"
yeah? your daughters out there like "i prefer digital singles to a nice 4LP gatefold record set you just don't get it dad"?
|
| |
In a nutshell.
Soul destroying.
|
| |
Why don't you just chain them up in the basement with nothing but a Walkman and a stack of dad rock jewel cases that'll teach em
|
| |
Walkmans were shit. The albums you could play on them were amazing though
