If I'm gonna listen to a folk artist who can't really sing, it's Bob Dylan every time.

Album Rating: 4.5
I've given this another listen and decided to drop it down to a 4.5, its still an awesome record, but it doesn't hold my attention as much as it used to.

Yeah, its actually getting close to that for me too, but I dunno, I think I'll stick to 4.5 for now.

this will stay as a 5 forever because as i explained in my review if i need it it's there and it makes me feel like the world doesn't exist. there's the odd time it's merely pleasant but when i really want it to come good it still hits so so hard.

Yeah this has dropped from a 5 for me too.

i don't understand that sort of thing. i don't drop my 5s. things become 5s on my ratings because they transcend something... surely that doesnt go away. 5s arent just really good 4.5s. theyre like totally different.

| |
Album Rating: 4.5
I can see your reasoning, but there's a point where the album no longer "transcends" and the meaning it had when you put it as a 5 is no longer existent

over time some albums just don't connect in the same way. I haven't changed my 5 rating for Illusion
of Safety because it is such an important album for me, even though now it doesn't even come close to
hitting me the same way it used to and i should probably have it a 4 if it wasn't for the nostalgic
value. i know what you mean though about For Emma, Forever Ago having that " if i need it it's there
and it makes me feel like the world doesn't exist" quality to it. i played this a lot when my grandpa
died and it's just wondrously consoling.

i guess i dont make things 5s unless i think theyre very unlikely to change. e.g.: arcade fire -
funeral has at times seemed perfect but i realise it's too reliant on other factors to merit a 5. as
it is i actually have it as a 4 because as soon as it's not a 5 it can go anywhere depending on my
temporary judgment... but my 5s dont go anywhere.
|
| |
i try to do that, as illusion was my favorite album for almost 6 years, but as my tastes changed it
lost some of its power. most of my other 5's have been the same since i was in high school. and some
like I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and The Moon and Antarctica have become even more special to me

With that whole "need it, its there" thing, I have that with a lot of albums, but not so much with this one.
i know what you mean, but over time some albums just don't connect in the same way.
Great minds think alike Adam ;)
