I’d argue they didn’t truly find their sound until Verisakeet (as great as the earlier albums are). First you have standard black metal in Tama and Metsa, then pure folk metal in Suden, then adding more black metal in Voimasta, Kivenkant Felt like the extremes for both of the genres. They found their sound on Verisakeet, and perfected it here

I guess you are right in the sense that their newer albums follow the Verisakeet template a bit more.

I'm not quite sure what to say of it, let's just say these two 30 min songs are as close to actually BEING songs instead of a patchwork of pieces as it gets. I've played this album some hundreds of times and STILL I can't recall the actual structure of neither of these. It's so damn well-done that when it ends, you don't remember how you got there from the start.

Yeah Moonsorrow is a prog rock band at heart, but one of the major issues with that genre is the feeling that some songs are just 2 or more separate tracks one after the other.
Moonsorrow does approach songwriting a bit different in that the songs are very long but transitions are always logical and gradual so they are expected and welcomed.

Had to lower my rating for this. The long song lengths make this feel like such a slog.

I don’t think it matters at all, plenty of albums are written in such a way where the transitions between songs barely register, there might technically be several tracks but the breaks aren’t noticeable. I just see it as one consistent piece from start to finish (divided into part 1 and 2, or whatever).

I just prefer this band, and this style of music in general, in shorter, distinct songs.

The perfect build-up makes this such a rewarding listen. When it hits those high points.... goosebumps all over.

I feel like I'm in the minority in liking Jaasta more than Tuleen.
