I think what you say is true, Iluvatar, because from what I know BTBAM don't take themselves seriously.

@bringonthebreakdown Close but no cigar.

@Iluvatar You're right and the gimmicks are getting old.

You guys need to get past your fanboyism and just accept its faults.

These guys just build on their sound, never taking different directions, by adding in "gimmicks" like a "country hoedown followed by harmonized guitar and screams and something that sounds like sesame street on a bad acid trip".

But hey it seems the gimmicks are paying off, just not for me.

So when I talk about "risks" it in reference to the direction and layout the band keeps using. Not that they throw some random shit into the mix, anyone can do that.This Message Edited On 01.14.08

Aww come on......

That just means its a classic within its Genre.

It's not like I skip around listening to "One hand in my pocket" plotting to bash prog-metal bands.

Jack Black needs to focus on something. He's fantastic at everything he does, but it never seems like he's as into it as he could be. Like.... School of Rock. It seemed.... so half-assed.

I am all for liking different kinds of music (up to a certain extent) but it seems like you do no like this genre of music and maybe you should be commenting on indie rock reviews instead.

After giving this a few intensive listens, I can say that I more fully appreciate a band like Opeth, who basically does what these guys do, only in a more tasteful and coherent manner. These guys are excellent musicians, and they've got some wacky sound concepts, some sweet riffing, and a handful of compelling moments. I really enjoy the first and last tracks. But everything else just feels like the same thing I heard 2 minutes before at a different tempo, or with a different drum pattern. In short, I find many of Opeth's songs boring; this beats that. Just isn't my thing maybe? I really think White Walls is fantastic, but I can listen to that song and feel like I've heard everything I'll ever need to hear from these guys. Despite Opeth boring me sometimes, the tracks I do like are each unique. I've also listened to some tracks from Alaska, and I find it more enjoyable. Anyway, a techincally proficient and strikingly original album that meanders off and snaps back as if it had amnesia, and revolves around a rather boring core sound, attempting to play with it to make things interesting, but in the end just left me with a puzzled look, wishing I had spent the last 10 or 15 minutes per song listening to something else more engaging. Okay, rant over, let the flames commence This Message Edited On 01.21.08

In my opinion the blatant, incredible talent that each of the musicians possess gives them the right to the self aware ironic tone, without making it awkward or out of place. This album owns hard

This album kicks so much ass but at some points it does feel pretentious. I love it though.

^^^ Seriously lulzy.

I like this album a lot but its just far, far too complex at points. Maybe it will grow on me.

This album is good but I have a butt hair that itches in the direction of Alaska being better. In other words, I haven't heard all of Alaska but I think I will like it better.
