Just everything, his song writing, lyrics, vocal delivery etc. and the fact that the whole alt-prog sound that PT pretty much defined is one of my least favourite things ever.

I've always wondered what's your definition of "song writing", Jamie, I get his lyrics are average (even though there are some exceptions imo) and he's vocals aren't outstanding but then again, that's the case for 90% of prog bands

Plenty of his lyrics are great, and then others just don't work very well, or are just pretty cliched. They aren't just on these newer albums, they're hit-and-miss across all of them. When you take into account new prog bands overall discographies, PT are hardly among the worst. If you want cringe-worthy, read some by Dream Theater on any of their last few albums...

Prog has always been cheesy and a bit childish. Wilson just continues the tradition.

"I've always wondered what's your definition of "song writing", Jamie"

Basically the writing, arranging, composing and structuring of a song. I don't think my definition differs from that of most people.

"Are you not much of an alternative rock fan? I tend to like PT much more when I view them from an alternative rock perspective rather than as a prog band"

Generally not a big fan of alt rock but I don't dislike it to the extent that I dislike this "alt-prog" style/scene.

Yeah I figured it would be something like that but that's why I think it is odd, lyrics are certainly average but the structure, instrumentation and general flow of the songs is excellent, can't see why you think it is that weak but each to his own I suppose

There's just nothing interesting about it and it's all presented in such a bland, clinical way.

It's your opinion. It's as good as the opinion of someone else, I guess.
