They do frank dirty in the mix though

Fact is they did my boi Frank dirty with the mix on When Girls Telephone Boys by burying his synths too deep into the mix. The 2011 version of the song is actually better because someone re-mixed it and amped Frank's effects up.

Synths are essential to the sound of Deftones eventhough they are sometimes hidden in the background.
Anyways, this video proves it.

Yes, a lot of their guitar parts have synths underneath, those are Frank's synths. The guitar sound would not have any ''otherwordly'' atmospheric vibe ( like a lot of songs on SNW) without Frank's atmospheric synths.
If Delgado was not in the band they'd just be a rock band basically, a slightly different one but he really gives them their vibe and atmosphere that originally separated them from the whole nu metal crap in the 90's. Starting with ATF.

“If Delgado was not in the band they'd just be a rock band basically, a slightly different one but he really gives them their vibe and atmosphere that originally separated them from the whole nu metal crap in the 90's. Starting with ATF.”
I wouldn’t go that far. He definitely adds another layer to the band but Frank isn’t the sole aspect that separates a band like Deftones from bands like Korn or Linkin Park

If anything he probably contributed to the Korn/LP comparisons back in the ATF/White Pony days. The programmed drums in RX Queen, the turntable scratches in Korea, the break beat at the end of Headup all come to mind as nu-metalish things on those albums.

i disagree with that beard guy, Deftones had the best drummer in the nu metal scene in Abe, and his drumming is very hip-hop inspired, which is obvious, many songs have those kinds of beats that are signature to Abe, hes a very unique player and underrated, imo.
I could agree with the scratching parts, though, although I think Deftones did it much MUCH MUCH more tastefully than other bands in that scene and I also think White Pony as a whole was WAY different than the Nu Metal scene at the time.

White Pony came a bit as a shock to me when it dropped. Was expecting more like ATF but damn what a pleasant surprise. Thought it sounded so large and alien back in 2000. Been a fan since I randomly bought Adrenaline as a kid so very hype for the new upcoming release. Hope they return to Sweden for a tour soon too.
