Digital Bath and everything pre-Gore was very inventive musically from the guitar perspective. He is a great guitarist - mixes rhythm and lead wonderfully well. I love Deftones - the most consistent alternative metal band around.

Accurate Confessed...It's not at all about being technical...It was about being fresh and with true identity.

Precisely why I hate the current metrics being used for what constitutes a good guitarist. There's too much technical wankery for my tastes.

I love the melodies and ambiance Steph creates with his simple style. Every modern guitarist seems to be a technical wizard now--but none of them can create the type of atmosphere that Steph has been able to throughout his career.

“Every modern guitarist seems to be a technical wizard now”

Hmm. Not necessarily, just look at Brad Delson. Lead guitarist of one of the biggest mainstream rock bands of the last two decades, yet is continuously (and fairly) criticised for lacklustre guitarwork.

“Good” is a matter of opinion though, some like the technical wizardry, others think it’s over the top bullshit. Different tastes.

We're at the point that every time I see a Gore thread bump I'm anticipating that it's new album news.

According to a fan who spoke to Frank the new album is due out in April. If that's true, I'm stoked.

Without Frank, you wouldn't have the breakdowns on My Own Summer, Around the Fur and When Girls Telephone Boys, the haunting choral synth on Change and the watery effects on Digital Bath. I could go on and on. Frank adds another dimension to their music. I would even go as far to say that he's the secret weapon of Deftones.
