Agreed with Hawks here 100%. This album got me into them and really allowed me to take a second gander at some of their older material that was almost unlistenable due to production mostly.

Before this album I tried Jane Doe and hated it for the longest time, but then grew to appreciate it and now it's an easy 5.

Def have this album to thank for my love of these guys.

Dude, the production on this is amazing. Super crisp and far from overproduced imo.

Yeah I guess it's the more songwriting than anything else. I prefer their angry/abrasive/dissonant/trebly sound (Jane Doe, You Fail Me, No Heroes). However I feel Axe to Fall is their best work, striking the perfect balance between over-the-top madness and accessibility with its impressive technicality, amazing riffs, deranged yet super tight vocals, furious pace, and overall crushing impact.

I don’t know how anyone could see this as overproduced. Yea it has clarity but definitely not at the cost sounding organic with a good layer of grime. I love it

I really dig Axe to Fall but it's one of my "least" favorite of theirs tbh. Still a solid 3.5, but I never really dug it as much as most people seem to.

I can't get enough of Axe to Fall's first 4 tracks. Especially tracks 2-3-4 (Reap What You Sow, Axe to Fall and Effigy): bombastic rhythm section, eargasmic riffs, raging vocals. Rest of the album is amazing, just not quite as perfect.

I know this is accessible by Converge's standards & opened the band up to a lot of people but for an old time fan like myself this was a shock to the system. Sure, AtF was accessible but in a completely different way, it was Converge doing something different whereas this used the old formula but diluted the crazed dissonance/cacophony a little.

I love this to pieces now but it took me a while to accept it, hoping the same happens with Dusk eventually.

I bought this when it came out and yeah, it did take a little while for it to sink in. Definitely a lot more accessible than previous efforts but it is a cool evolution of the band.
