you dont get songwriting credit for leads you turkey
“We have a guy coming in from this San Francisco band, Exodus,” Lars said. “He’s flying in and joining the band. He already knows most of the songs, and he’s learning the leads.”

"[Dave was] listening to it, just staring at the speakers in complete silence, studying the songs. And I remember me and Greg sitting around him, just kind of nervously going, 'Oh my God. What's the reaction gonna be to this?' And I remember one of the first things he said, he goes, 'He fucking ripped off my solos.' That was Dave's first reaction — that Kirk had played his solos.

Oh... so Dave mustaine himself is the one saying they were ripped. Now I believe it. The most demonstrably bitter man in the world about being kicked from a band lol. Also, pretty sure dude was a junkie at that time
"you dont get songwriting credit for leads you turkey"
This isn't true. There are actually no cut and dry rules and regulations for who can get songwriting credits for what. Hell, iirc, Dave grohl has a credit in smells like teen spirit just for the drum part. Not saying that getting credit for solos is typical though

Pretty sure I would also be extremely bitter if I got kicked out of the biggest metal band of all time

The dude moved from Metallica to another one of the most successful metal bands of all time that he built himself. I get it's not the giant business that Metallica is, but it's kinda hard to feel bad for a dude with all that success.

Definitely don't feel bad for him. In fact, if I was him, I'd be proud that I got booted and subsequently built my own extremely successful band. But yeah, he missed out on potentially being nearly halfway to a billion dollars like Lars and James. But he's still got enough for life of luxury anyway

I think Mustaine pulled off something even more ridiculous than Metallica did by having his band's real breakout hit, if you think about it, being an album like Rust in Peace.

I was referencing the 2nd paragraph... leads doesnt necessarily equate to full blown solos and definitely doesnt translate to Dave wrote all the solos and he's copying them. That's a huge leap. If you're a mustaine superfan then that's cool, but you need real evidence to support this claim other than "this dude is learning leads" and a bitter, drugged out mustaine screaming his solos were jacked. If that's all you got then I'm not convinced
But this is ridiculous anyway because Hammett's playing on RtL and beyond is way beyond the shit on KeA lol

Megadeth is vastly superior musically no doubt but i just can't listen to Mustaine's vocals, they are very grating to me

They’re musically superior but nowhere near as consistent in terms of quality. Half their albums are lower than Metallica’s 90s/2000s material.

Mustaine is a piss poor vocalist even by thrash standards and tbh whenever he gets on his libertarian soapbox lyrically I kinda roll my eyes

James Hetfield is hilarious when he trolls Lars and Lars doesn’t get it and James looks so mad and confused when Lars fucks up, Hammet looks confused and amused, Trujillo would just be laughing 🤣🤣🤣

Iirc... the main stuff that Dave wrote that made it on metallica albums were:
-The fast parts of the four horseman (the mid tempo middle section being a james creation)
-Jump in the fire is 100% a dave song
-Phantom Lord interlude
-iirc Metal Militia is also mainly dave contributions, especially that weird verse riff
-Ride the lightning fast bridge
-The clean guitar/main riff of ktulu
And you can more or less confirm this by all these chords/selection of notes resurfacing numerous times in megadeth songs while never bring touched on again by metallica
As for the solos I feel like I remember reading he used the first four bars of every dave solo because they transitioned nicely... but idk I kinda don't believe he stole the entire solos. They very much sound like Kirk solos to me... dave solos just seem a bit more reckless in my head
