Yeah this is better than both.

If they kept blending the progressive rock with the progressive metal like they did on this record, their albums after this would have been great.

The organ was a nice touch on a few of these tracks.

I dunno, this is such a downfall from Ghost Reveries which destroys this. It's not as boring as heritage and on but it's their most boring release with death metal growling

I'll agree, far less compelling than Ghost Reveries. Interestingly, this was the first Opeth album I heard, and even as a newcomer I found myself saying "it's good, really good actually, maybe even great, but I feel like they're holding something back." Still a huge fan of "Hessian Peel" and "The Lotus Eater" though.
