his soloing style is runs up and down the minor pentatonic which is the first thing any kid learns after picking up an electric guitar whether or not they listen to metallica

Kirk Hammett is FAR from the only rock/metal guitarist to abuse the pentatonic lol. He still has a distinctive style and doesn't always solo in pentatonic anyway. And still yet, I've heard tons of thrash guitarists rip off his soloing style

that was the point his "distinctive" style isnt distinctive at all you could find a replacement in 20 min at a local guitar center

Sure, nowadays everybody and their brother plays like that. Back in 1984 his style was pretty unique

Regardless of his style and his skills back in the 80s he's one sloppy ass mofo now and has been a sorry excuse for a live lead guitar player for at least the past 30 years. Same pretty much goes for Lars on drums.

LMAO that's the one thing I can't stand in metallica comment sections. lOoK hE's dOiNg tHe dOuBlE bAsS............. like yeah its part of the song and people be paying like $300/ticket to see them so he should be fucking doing it lol... and metallica has the most basic double kick parts anyways

My point is thrash metal drumming is a young man’s sport. Lars is 58 and he’s been doing it constantly for 40 years! He’s still pretty tight. Give the man a break

i've def noticed in their post-pandemic performances they've started slowing songs down a bit in their live performances. also noticed they now play a strict 16 song set instead of 18 like they'd been doing the past like 15 years. they are most certainly getting up there in age and its impressive they still tour and play at the rate they do.
tbh i don't really know of any bands as old as them that play music as fast as their classic stuff. interested to see how they wind down their career.

Kirk is good and a mix bag at the same time. Some parts of his lead his awesome and some are disappointing. My totally subjective opinion, not based on knowledge at all. Only feelings.
He is a strange beast as a guitarist but a psychic glue for the band.

"lol bro he literally adopted mustaines lead parts by ear whats unique about copying something."
Gonna need some citations on that one. The best I can find myself is that Hammett based his solos partially on mustaine's. And that's for what... 4 total metallica songs out of over 30 between the first 4 albums? Lol. Mustaine has a total of like 6 songwriting credits between their first two albums. One of those is an instrumental and one is for one single riff

Agreed. I've never been a fan of pentatonic abuse but Hammett does occasionally whip out some cool stuff

James' voice sounded surprisingly good on SM2. It's the first time I thought 'woah dude can actually sing'.
