Flug since u go to bat so hard for them i will give them the benefit of the doubt. Probably still won't check the album tho, haven't heard anything I really dug from them since their debut

To be fair, the album itself is called Cancer Culture, not Cancel Culture. I def feel like that kinda title could easily be tongue-in-cheek or some shit, so I'd probably wanna look the album up just to make sure before writing it off. Don't get me wrong though, the title definitely gives a bad impression and no doubt a lot of people saw that and were just like "Nope" lol. They def would've been better off naming it something else.

That said, I'd probably skip the album anyway just because I don't really dig their newer style. Debut is sick, and I actually love Nihility/The Negation/Organic Hallucinosis, but I don't much care for anything after that.

where I live, the metal scene is progressive/left-wing to the point that many people won't even listen to a band without searching it on RABM/antifash forums first to ensure it's safe. so a band with the lyrics "playing god and gaining weight" would get crushed for fat-phobia/disability shaming and thus be right-wing by default. like sure, we love bands with good people in them, but I can't help but think the growing paranoia has more to do with performative positivity than legitimate concern.

so that's where I'm coming from with assuming Cancer Culture is Trapt-adjacent. may or may not be real, but I've been kinda conditioned for it.

I love everything Decapitated did until Carnival is Forever, which I like a lot btw. After that it's been from bland to somewhat decent but way below their previous material.

Damn lol. I'm glad the music scene over here isn't super political.

I mean, I don't mind when bands talk about politics sometimes, and I wouldn't usually disregard a band for having different viewpoints, but it really depends on how far they go, how they go about it, and how often. But given the state of things currently, and how everything seems to be political these days, I'd rather music be an escape from that lol

I feel you @ the "cancer culture" thing though. I mean I thought the same, but it threw me off because I knew Decapitated, so that's why I'm like "eh, maybe it's not what I think" and maybe check an interview or something before rushing to judgement. If I saw that title and didn't know the band, I'd def skip.

Forgot about Carnival, yeah that album is cool too. I didn't like it as much as Organic Hallucinosis or The Negation (but then the latter is probably my favorite Decapitated album) but it was still good.

This convo kinda making me wanna jam Decapitated now lol. Think I'll start at Carnival and work backwards.

As due dilligence i always check r/isitsketch to figure out if a band is NS, that being said riffs can be so good they surpass intellectual superstition

Arghoslent, Vothana, M8l8TH are good examples; can’t say much about decap drama except they brought it to themselves

I hope you're talking about the album title lol.

But tbh I don't typically look bands up to see what their political views are. If it's a big part of the music, I'll find out when I listen to it.

Probably a good thing, though. I doubt I'd have ever listened to Dissection if I'd known beforehand that Jon and his friend murdered some guy for being gay. Not a political thing (even though people seem to be making it out to be) -- but I'm gay and tbh I feel almost like some sort of guilt when I listen to them lol. But generally I try separating the art from the artist, even though that's not always possible.

"Most of that garbage exists solely on the internet too, log off and poof! Oh look people aren't really outraged and screaming memes at each other in the streets."

online people have no inhibitions. i still wonder in real life interactions what someone's online persona might be.
