Didn't know that part in Bleak was Steven. Honestly it sounds like Mikael to me.

Yep definitely Steven. He also does vocals in The Drapery Falls, Harvest, The Funeral Portrait. Also backing vox in the Deliverance and Damnation albums.

His backing vox on Master's Apprentices is one of the reasons it's as great as it is, I'll give him that.

Dirge for November is just so, so perfect.

Yep, that outro is the most beautiful thing they’ve ever written.

Ties in with the song so well too, it’s literally the narrator ending his/her life and drifting off into the afterlife.

Yep, and man, the same could be said for Funeral too. What a jam. And then we get the t/t. We don't deserve a band this legendary.

Funeral is cool and the t/t is like top 5 Opeth.

Dirge has always been my fave here though, lyrically it’s probably their best song for them emotionz.

Dirge is so underrated, definitely way up there with their best.

I'm from November so teenage me was immediately drawn to that track too, haha!

Sooner or later I honestly think we'll all begin to come to the conclusion that Opeth, and Mikael specifically, belong at the head of the conversation for greatest metal outfits ever. Mikael is a titan of the genre, and is right there with Iommi / Lemmy / Steve Harris for me.

He has a good sense of humour too. Made some amusing jokes when I saw them live.

Dirge is beautiful though was a bit too dirgy for my first few listens 4 or so years ago. But hell, it grew.

Yeah I like how it's not too bloated with technicality, gives space for more melancholia

I think it's mainstream to hate Opeth, no matter how good they songs can be. But good review anyways. :P

This dude plays Opeth on a piano and besides some unfortunate (to my ears) flourishes, he is good.

Here's our secret fave, Dirge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm8HV_cY4NQ&t=1513s
