it must have just dropped cause i can’t see anything for it on youtube or rym but it’s on apple music and the instrumental and production are glorious, sort of odd vocals and lyrical pattern but i’ll have to see how it grows on me

yeah this song is pretty great. Tropic Morning News and this one are two winners, album is shaping up better than their last two already

Ran through The National's discography yesterday, and while I tradionally leaned towards High Violet and Boxer, I think this may be my favorite National album now.

Yeah, it’s what generally happens
Seems you either go back to thinking Alligator is the best or you go for the premium refinement of their sound which is this one

Sea of Love, Don't Swallow the Cap, This is the Last Time, Graceless, and Pink Rabbits are without a doubt among the band’s very best songs.

'Hard to Find' is, too - amazing track that always gets overlooked.

'Seems you either go back to thinking Alligator is the best or you go for the premium refinement of their sound which is this one'
Hmm, yeah I didn't see this happening, but I am tentatively thinking this has overtaken Alligator at the very least. Boxer / HV still reign supreme as things stand. Perhaps the tides are turning (at a snail's pace).

Boxer and HV are pretty clearly their best imo, with Alligator at a close third.

Counterpoint: 'Mr. November' is cringe.

this is a great album but there’s a certain forced corniness to it. Alligator is much more organic

Boxer>Alligator>High Violet>Trouble Will Find Me
That's my ranking, those four are a notable cut above the rest of their albums.

Boxer>HV>Alligator>SWB>Trouble>Sad Songs>Cherry Tree>IAEtF>Virginia>debut.

this is a great album but there’s a certain forced corniness to it.
just wait until you get married and have kids, nothing here is forced this is peak midlife-crisiscore

I'd go Boxer > Alligator > High Violet = Cherry Tree + Virginia.
You could probably squeeze out one reasonable album from the rest of their albums.
