Metallica were also influenced by MF which is what I thought the topic of discussion was here for what they'd make intros like that.

bell tolls is easily their best song, and ride is a classic, but fire could have been better and the rest of the album is boring filler

Its still a good song imo, just easily my least favourite here. Escape is pretty similar in quality but I get that catchy chorus stuck in my head all the time so it elevates it a bit.

Trapped Under Ice owns and it'd definitely be one of the best songs if it were on the albums of any of their contemporaries by this point.

It's kinda crazy how simple yet effective the main riff in Creeping Death is. It shouldn't be so good but it just is.

Fight Fire with Fire is definitely my least favorite here. Decent enough opener, but there’s just something missing that would eventually make it to Battery and Blackened. Something about FFWF just doesn’t feel climactic or powerful enough as an opener, even with the nuclear imagery. I can’t stress enough the fact that Ride the Lightning is the album I jam the least out of Metallica’s first four, and it’s almost exclusively because of FFWF
