The National Anthem is pure genius. I get not liking it but the point it gets across is just too great.

Fair enough. To me, The Bends is just another (albeit really good) guitar rock album, where is this is so much more creative. To me, The National Anthem accomplishes more with one bass riff than pretty much every song on The Bends does with multiple guitar tracks.
