I'm sorry but Black Mile is just so uninteresting compared to this. Doesn't reach the same highs. I've tried to get into it but it doesn't stick for me.

i don't understand that at all lol black mile has that great run with the alien-the sunshine-the grocery that vastly eclipses anything here imo. all in all i just feel thematically it's way more impactful than this. not that this isn't, but idk it just doesn't do it for me like black miles does. nothing on here is like super fucking interesting to me. the hooks aren't that great on here and instrumentally it's not doing anything that crazy at all and it also flows weirdly.

its monotonous, thats its problem. the songs on their own are all really good, but throw them all onto an album and its just not dynamic enough to be something outstanding.

The flow isn't perfect, I would personally re-order the tracks a little bit. But Same Logic/Teeth for me beats anything on Black Mile. The end of that song, as well as the little hidden track at the end of Out of Mana both hit me in the chest so hard.

Also helps that I waited yearrrrs for this record, and I just prefer Jesse's voice over Andy's. I feel like Jesse is more dynamic.

heres a hot take though, the chorus of The Alien (in an otherwise great song) sux.

it might not need the screams, but it does need something to indicate that Jesse Lacey wasn't perpetually falling asleep when recording it... like a life-support machine beeping or some kids crying in the background.
