tto be fair calling any radiohead innovative is sort of a stretch. i mostly mean for mark of experimentation by the band.

and wow kid as my favorite :[

Would rate it a 1 if sputnik would let me.

Also I don't view this record as being as complacent as some people. I actually think there are a quite a few experimental soundscapes here.

"Innovation is great but isn't a prerequisite of great music imo but I know that goes against a lot of sput philosophy"

You're totally right there Doof, unfortunately there are relatively few that agree with us.

As for innovation, Radiohead were never the most experimental band in existence for sure but I really don't understand how people can hear OK Computer for instance and say that (in terms of sound at least) it's just an average, conventional 90s alt-rock album.

Regarding this album, it certainly isn't innovative but I would still say that it's pretty interesting, again with the use of strings as Doof mentioned and across the album every song has a fairly different sound/identity. Just from a sound construction perspective this is not average stuff.

The idea that Radiohead need to continually drop a kid A to merit a 'pass' is just laughable. This is just quality music, regardless of the current zeitgeist, in the same way In Rainbows was. As long as they continue to release confident, engaging music, that's the only thing that matters to me, because nobody else sounds like them at this point. This is the most I've enjoyed a Radiohead album for quite some time, which given their body of work, is really saying something.

Radiohead's 'innovation' for me has always been their attention to layering, texture and sound design, which I get in abundance from their recent stuff (KOL included). They have always had an ambiance which other guitar bands just lack.

Exactly.

That, coupled with consistently amazing songwriting, is what makes them great.

no offense butt yourr confusing innovation for experimentall i think. the two arent necesssarily the same. ok computer wasmt standard 90s rock but that doesnte automatically make it innovative just exxperimental for the band and subgenre. no offense :[

The two often go hand in hand, but the definition is nearly always subjective. You are arguing semantics. It's like saying a track like Knives Out isn't 'innovative' - who cares? A band having their own sound and being creative within that area is far more engaging to me than throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks approach.

thats very true and i agreee butt thiis seems like the epitome of "sticking things to th wall to see what sticks". i mean most of the songs from what i understand are old tunes(wasnt truel ove waits even on that old live album?), the tracklistin is a compleete mess, the album changes its atmosphere quite often and the material here has stereotypical all over it(ful stop being a song structure done multi beforee and identikit sounding likkek a in rainbows b side. a damn good one at that but still.)

i mean no offenses aluktodolo and theboneykingofnowhere(nice name dudette) but thiss albums entire creatiion is the definition of throwing thinggs against the wall. im surprised literally no one has talked about the tracklisting i bring it up all the time and friends just say im crazy. its so random.

too be honnest its not like radiohead hasnt done this before.hail to the thief is a very badllly put together album and like this it combines there previous influences but golly is it more interesteing and necessary to the radiohead cannon than this. this is like a retirement folks album. not that its bad, its good. but still. even in rainbows is kind of a melting pot of their previous inlfluences from their otherr albums and yet people consider it a modern classic. why?? because its more interesting.

still prefer ok and especially kid a to most of what theyve done but they still have better post 2000 albumss.

King is like a fleshed out EP - 5, maybe 6 at a push, great songs and some filler, a true Radiohead album it is not.
