"murica black metal > scandinavian black metal"

I mean there are some excellent USBM bands like Weakling, WitTR, Fell Voices, Inquisition, Rhinocervs etc...it doesn't even come close to the dearth of talent in Scandinavia (which is like 3/4 countries!). Shit, I can't even list 'em there's so many.
One scene that's overlooked is the Canadian scene imo.

Don't forget the central European scene (or the Eastern European/Russian scene). Particularly Germany and France have a lot going for them in terms of BM. Then add Scandinavia. It's mass, quality and versatility.

Ah yeah definitely. France is pretty well recognized in the underground with the LLN, but yeah Germany has a lot of good overlooked shit...especially the black/folk bands

Most of the Wod-Van stuff is really good. And as I said, lots of versatility in terms of style. Nocte Obducta's and Lunar Aurora's discography alone are proof of that.

I used to REALLY love Nocte Obducta, but now I have a really hard time stomaching progressive/avant-garde black metal
|

Not all of their stuff sounds like that. And they're actually one of the few bands who can properly pull that style off IMO.

I know not all their stuff sounds like that, but Teil I and II used to be my jams back in the day. It really as nothing to do with how well they can pull it off really, it's moreso a shift in my tastes.

I know what you mean. I mean I went from listening only to metal and neofolk to listening to all kinds of stuff. In fact, there were times where I almost exclusively listened to BM. Now I can only listen to BM in the right context.

Quite yeah :P
Plus, the support group were also really good (shame it wasn't Chelsea Wolfe but meh), No Spill Blood

... I have no response to that.
Response should note on how one can legitimately enjoy the USBM scene more now than ever before in the past, making such comments not completely ridiculous. The fact that the USBM scene can actually compete with its European equivalents is fairly refreshing.

I would argue to say that USBM is better than most European bm these days
