Yeah, The Key and the next one are very good albums. Of course they cannot even touch Symbolic but I dig them.

Pantera? Fuck me.
Let’s just say that something being accessible doesn’t automatically make it worse, but I think that should be obvious.

sure
but usually things are accessible *because* they are diluted

This isn’t diluted in the slightest though. Sure there’s heavier or purer DM I guess, but it still carries its essence whilst bringing other things to the table.

‘Diluted’ has negative connotations, this alters the formula. No it isn’t ‘pure’ OSDM, but genres develop, they change, and this is a brilliant example of progressive metal perfected by one of DM’s premier forebearers.
Fair enough if you prefer other interpretations, or you don’t like the direction this took, but implying this is watered-down in any way is just absurd imo.
This might be controversial, but the more I think about it, the more I consider artists/albums that fuse genres or ideas to be the greatest. Now of course the process of musical evolution will always have this (to an extent) and not everything has to be ‘progressive’ by some arbitrary definition.
tl;dr - I’d rather listen to bands pushing boundaries than unfiltered ‘pure’ versions of tried and tested formulas. Death did that, many times. This just happens to represent a move further away from their DM roots, one which also happens to be fairly accessible. That doesn’t mean it isn’t a fully-fledged, intricately crafted masterpiece.

I went thru a phase a few years back, thinking this album wasnt the greatest. But there is a magic to it that literally no other dm album has been able to create on that level. The lyrics throughout the album rule and the instrumentation matches the themes in the music on an epic level. Yeah sure there are albums that are more technical, or better produced, or have better vox, or MAYBE have better riffs but I literally dont give a fuck, when chuck yells DO YOU REMEMBER WHENNNN, THINGS SEEMED SO ETERNALLLL, HEROES WERE SO REALLLL, THEIR MAGIC FROZEN IN TIME and countless other moments on this album give me goosebumps and rule hardddd, if they dont for you dam that sucks bruh rip chuck I'm out
