holy fuCK I FORGot how good this album is
|

the solos on Pigs are just as good as the ones on Dogs
I will never understand this. I mean the solos in Pigs are cool but that third solo in Dogs is just leagues ahead and probably the best solo Gilmour ever played.

Dogs wins.

in terms of raw emotion, yeah Dog's third solo is easily the best on the album, but the outro of Pigs goes so hard that I don't think its "leagues" behind anything Gilmour has done.
when it comes down to it, I think I like Pigs more because out of context of the album it holds its ground as a better song. Dogs is amazing when listening to the album in full (hell, it basically IS the album) but its a very long song, and contains a 4 minute interlude of dogs barking and Roger saying "stone"

The ambient section? That part is perfect.

cmon they've done better, even the midsection of echoes is more interesting
|
| |
It's perfect in the context of the song and only adds to the song's engrossing atmosphere, for me anyway.

Works rather well. A bit repetitive, but it fits in as well as the harsh ambient section in Echoes.

the song is absolutely tremendous and structurally perfect
other Floyd songs just happen to have captured me more in terms of emotion. its really just a personal opinion, because I have fully ventured into Animals just as much as any other Floyd album and recognize how powerful it all is. Pigs has just always stood out as my favorite from the three. Roger's songwriting is cohesive as he almsot cynically keeps things minimal, while still being saturated in Gilmour's brilliant guitar licks keeping in perfect time with the rythmn section, and his solos just top it off like icing on the cake; it Animals in a nutshell
