Sweet. I'll be getting to them soon. If they are better though, I'm guessing there isn't a Slayer album I dislike. What a Pleb I am.

You like what you like, but I'd say Reign, Heaven, and Season's should start to pull away as they all fully settle in

I don't see any of them really topping or equaling those anyway.

The only post-Seasons Slayer I truly enjoy is Christ Illusion. Maybe you can say that it's a bit of a return to past form. None of the rest "modern" Slayer appeals to me even though I've met guys who dig Divine Intervention and actually think that it's quite underrated.

I just think that Divine Intervention is the kind of album you make after you've made basically 5 albums that a good number of people consider top tier of the genre. It's different, but stays true to roots and doesn't try to top their best work because that will lead to disappointment.

Yeah that's a good explanation. Divine Intervention might get shit simply because it followed those amazing albums. But the fact that at the time Slayer (and a lot of big thrash and heavy metal bands) were losing ground to the gothic, black, death and power metal bands played a role too. A lot of big bands at the time didn't know what kind of music to release in order to appeal to the youngsters so they either returned to their roots or fused their sound with some modern elements (such as on Diabolus in Musica).

Yeah, metal has a way of leaving behind those that lay the ground work. And dude I just noticed your contributor tag. Congrats.

Divine Intervention was actually the first Slayer I heard because it was the one my dad had on CD. I have a bit of nostalgic love for it but even then I would prob rate it like a 3. Haven't listened to it in prob like 5 years.

Divine is criminally underrated, agreed.
People need to chill about it not having Dave. Has nobody heard "Killing Fields" or "Dittohead"? 'urrr Divine suckz cuz no Dave instantly a 1/5 durrr'

I think Slayer is one of those bands who never actually manage to recover from the musical movements of the early 90's.

I think not. I believe it is as 3 as it gets and I'll never understand how the band moved from this album right here to DI.

According to everyone outside of Sputnik, Megadeth always stayed tr00 to their roots.
Though realistically Slayer was the least worst in terms of stuff they released in the 90's.
